As of March 2, 2020, Dutch nationals who visit Turkey for tourist purposes will no longer need a visa for a maximum period of 90 days (within 180 days). check your own country for the rules.

Within these 180 days you can travel to Turkey an unlimited number of times and stay there for a maximum of 90 days.

General information
Turkey has excellent roads connecting towns and cities with all the popular tourist areas. The Turkish government has and continues to invest heavily to improve the national roads. The number of vehicles on Turkish roads is low compared to international standards. Turkey offers you a beautiful Mediterranean coastline, with nice coastal towns and Roman ruins and castles. Side and Alanya are lively cities that have retained their old world charm.

To rent a car in Turkey, you must be at least 21 years old (the minimum age varies by car category) and have held your driver’s license for at least 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 must pay an additional fee. For some car categories there is a maximum age limit of 70 years for car rental in Turkey. Seat belts are mandatory and children under the age of 12 are not allowed to sit in the front of the car.

Maximum speed
The speed limits in Turkey are:

  • Within built-up areas 50 km/h
  • Outside built-up areas 90 km/h
  • Motorways 120 km/h

Traffic rules
In Turkey you drive on the right. Caution is advised in rural areas where you may encounter farm carts and animals on the road. The maximum permitted blood alcohol level is 0.5.

Most gas stations in Turkey are generally open between 6am and 10pm. The gas stations along the highways are open 24 hours a day.

There are no parking meters in Turkey. Parking attendants check the streets and collect fines for incorrectly parked cars. Most cities have parking garages and public parking.
